Volvo Recalls 2019 VNL and VHD Trucks for Tire Air Loss Risk
Volvo is recalling 2019 VNL and VHD trucks because specific Bridgestone tires may lose air rapidly, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (tire sidewall cord exposure) that can cause rapid air loss and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain 2019 Volvo VNL and VHD trucks. The recall involves vehicles equipped with specific Bridgestone M854, M860A, and M864 tires in size 425/65R22.5 with date codes ranging from 2318 to 2518.
The defect involves the sidewall steel body cords of these tires, which may become exposed. This condition can cause unexpected, rapid air loss during use, which increases the risk of a crash. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 119 regarding new pneumatic tires.
Volvo will notify owners to take their vehicles to Bridgestone Tire or Volvo Truck service centers for inspection and replacement, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 19, 2018. Owners can contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
