What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety component (fire extinguisher) that may fail to function or cause injury due to nozzle detachment, fitting the criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. The recall affects specific model years of vehicles including the RAM Promaster City, Dodge Durango, Dodge Challenger, and RAM 1500, among others. A complete list of affected trailer and vehicle models is available via the NHTSA website.
The defect involves fire extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing them from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force to cause injury and render the product inoperable. If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540 for more information. Chrysler's number for this recall is T82.
