What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fire extinguisher) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the High severity criteria for products with potential for injury but no confirmed incidents.
Plain-English summary
Newmar Corporation is recalling various 1995-2018 motorhomes, including the Ventana, London Aire, and Scottsdale models. The recall involves Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' fire extinguishers installed in these vehicles.
The fire extinguishers may become clogged, preventing them from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate. In certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force to cause injury and render the product inoperable. If the extinguisher does not function properly during a fire, it can increase the risk of injury.
Owners will be notified by Newmar and instructed to contact Kidde for a free replacement fire extinguisher. The recall began on February 7, 2018. Owners can contact Kidde customer service at 1-855-262-3540 or Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791 for more information.
