Audi Recalls 2015 A3 Cabriolet for Incorrect Safety Certification Label Date
Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 2,091 2015 Audi A3 Cabriolet vehicles because the safety certification label displays an incorrect production date.
What this means for you
Cosmetic or documentation issue. No expected health impact, but the manufacturer is correcting the affected products.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a documentation and labeling error (incorrect production date on the certification label) rather than a mechanical defect, fitting the criteria for cosmetic defects or documentation issues.
Plain-English summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2015 Audi A3 1.8T FWD S tronic and 2.0T Quattro S tronic vehicles. The recall affects 2,091 vehicles in total. The defect involves the safety certification label, which contains an incorrect vehicle production date. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
An incorrect production date on the safety certification label may prevent owners from determining if a vehicle safety recall affects them. This issue increases the risk of injury or a crash if the owner is unaware of other applicable recalls.
Audi will notify owners, and dealers will install an overlay label containing the correct vehicle production date free of charge. The recall began on June 23, 2017. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 51F5. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov.
