In the event of a crash where the primary communication pathway is damaged, the supplementary communication pathway may fail to shut off the engine or fuel pump. If the engine and fuel pump do not shut off after a crash, there is an increased risk of a fire.
Owners will be notified by MBUSA. A dealer will update the engine control unit with new software free of charge. The recall began in early June 2017. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
