What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, as the incorrect labeling could lead to hitch failure and a crash.
Plain-English summary
Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2017 Allegro Open Road motorhomes. The recall involves a sticker on the tow hitch that lists incorrect weight capacities. The sticker states a capacity of 10,000 lbs and a maximum tongue weight of 1,000 lbs, whereas the correct towing capacity is 5,000 lbs with a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs.
If the hitch is loaded to the weight listed on the incorrect sticker, the hitch may fail. This failure could cause the towed vehicle to separate from the motorhome, increasing the risk of a crash.
Tiffin will notify owners and supply a corrected weight capacity sticker free of charge. The recall began on March 22, 2017. Owners may contact Tiffin customer service at 1-256-356-8661. Tiffin's number for this recall is TIF-105. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
