Plain-English summary
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain 2012 Jaguar XF vehicles originally sold or registered in specific states and territories designated as "Zone A," as well as certain 2009 Jaguar XF vehicles sold or registered in states designated as "Zone B." Vehicles not originally sold or registered in these specific zones are not subject to this safety recall.
The affected vehicles are equipped with certain passenger frontal air bag inflators that may rupture during a crash necessitating deployment. This rupture is caused by propellant degradation resulting from long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling. An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking vehicle occupants, which could result in serious injury or death.
Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag assembly free of charge. The recall began on December 18, 2017. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
