GM Recalls 2010-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles for Fire Risk
General Motors is recalling 2010-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit vehicles because a cooling fan defect may cause an electrical short and fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (cooling fan assembly) that explicitly increases the risk of a fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit vehicles manufactured between August 24, 2009, and December 1, 2013. These vehicles were equipped with special equipment options for police or government service.
The recall addresses a defect where the under-hood cooling fan assembly may experience corrosion due to fluid intrusion. This corrosion can result in an electrical short circuit, which increases the risk of a fire.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fan motor and shroud, extend the wiring, and re-orient the fan motor to reduce the risk of corrosion. This repair is free of charge. The recall began on September 7, 2017. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
