Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured between February 9, 2015, and August 12, 2016. The recall addresses a defect where vehicles may have been updated with incorrect Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software during dealer servicing.
This software defect can cause the ESC system to lose engine torque control and fail to provide warning lamps to the driver if an ABS or ESC malfunction occurs. Consequently, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 126 and 135. If the driver is not warned of a malfunction and the ESC loses control, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ABS module and update the service software free of charge. The recall began on November 22, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
