Starcraft RV Recalls 2017 AR-ONE MAXX Trailers Due to Incorrect Axle Labeling
Starcraft RV is recalling 40 model year 2017 AR-ONE MAXX LE trailers because the Federal label incorrectly states they have two axles instead of one, creating an overload risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where axle or tire failure could increase the risk of a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Plain-English summary
Starcraft RV is recalling certain model year 2017 AR-ONE MAXX LE trailers, model 19BHLE, manufactured between August 25, 2016, and September 6, 2016. The recall affects 40 units. The Federal label on these vehicles incorrectly states that the trailers are built with two axles, each with a 2500-pound capacity. In reality, the vehicles are built with only one 2500-pound capacity axle. This discrepancy means the vehicles fail to comply with the certification requirements of 49 CFR Part 567.
The incorrect labeling creates a safety hazard because an operator relying on the listed axle capacity may overload the trailer. This overload could result in axle or tire failure, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Starcraft has notified dealers who have the affected trailers quarantined. Dealers will provide owners with a corrected Federal label free of charge. The recall began on September 19, 2016. Owners may contact Starcraft customer service at 1-800-945-4787 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
