E-One Recalls 2015-2016 Cyclone II and Typhoon Fire Trucks

E-One is recalling 2015-2016 Cyclone II and Typhoon fire trucks because a transmission component may fail, preventing the vehicle from pumping water to fight fires.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a functional defect in emergency response vehicles that prevents water pumping, explicitly stated to increase the risk of injury, but no specific injuries or deaths are reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

E-One Incorporated is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Cyclone II and Typhoon emergency response vehicles. The recall covers Cyclone II vehicles manufactured between July 31, 2015, and June 12, 2016, and Typhoon vehicles manufactured between September 21, 2015, and July 27, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with certain C20 and C21 split-shaft transmissions from Waterous.

A component within the shift unit of these transmissions may be damaged. If this occurs, the operator may not be able to switch the power output. This transmission is responsible for sending power to the wheels or powering add-on units, such as water pumps used for fighting fires.

If the power output cannot be changed, the fire truck may not be able to pump water to aid in extinguishing a fire once it arrives at the scene, which increases the risk of injury. E-One will notify owners and supply a remedy kit that replaces the clevis pin and retaining rings free of charge. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
