Plain-English summary
Indian Motorcycle Company is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Chief Classic, Dark Horse, Chieftain, Roadmaster, Vintage, Springfield, and Chieftain Dark Horse motorcycles. The affected units were manufactured between April 15, 2013, and June 16, 2015.
The recall addresses a defect where an engine misfire may allow unburned fuel to pass through parts of the exhaust system. This process can raise exhaust temperatures, which may result in an increased risk of fire.
Dealers will update the engine control module (ECM) software for affected vehicles free of charge. The recall began in July 2016. Owners may contact Indian customer service at 1-877-204-3697 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
