2024 Indian Motorcycles Recalled for Faulty Rear Suspension Pushrod
Indian Motorcycle Company is recalling certain 2024 motorcycle models because the rear suspension pushrod may buckle under load, potentially damaging safety-critical components or causing the motorcycle to lose stability.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The rear suspension is a critical structural component. A buckled pushrod can damage multiple safety systems and cause loss of motorcycle control. Although no injuries have been reported, this meets the rubric criterion for structural vehicle defect.
Plain-English summary
Indian Motorcycle Company is recalling certain 2024 model motorcycles, including the Chieftain, Challenger, Pursuit, Roadmaster, and Springfield. The rear suspension pushrod may buckle under load.
A buckled rear suspension pushrod can pinch the main chassis electrical harness, damage the coolant reservoir, damage the rear tire, or cause the motorcycle to bottom out under load. Any of these failures increases the risk of a crash or injury to the rider.
Owners should contact Indian customer service at 1-877-204-3697 to arrange a free replacement of the rear suspension pushrod. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 22, 2024. The Indian internal recall number is I-24-07.
Owners can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional information.
