Plain-English summary
Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain model year 2016 KME Predator and KME 2016-2017 Predator Severe Service and Panther emergency vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with pumps that provide pressurized water to aid in fighting fires. The affected vehicles include NAVISTAR 4400 and 7400 models from 2016, as well as KME Predator, Predator SS, and Predator Panther models from 2016 and 2017.
The recall addresses a defect in the 6-inch intake strainers of the water pumps. During production, these strainers may have been improperly soldered. As a result, the strainers may come apart during use, allowing parts of the strainer and debris to enter the pump. This can possibly damage the pump.
If the strainer or debris enters the pump, the operator may be forced to shut down the pump, which reduces firefighting effectiveness and could increase the risk of injury. KME will notify owners to check the strainer for missing solder at the joints. Any strainers missing solder will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on June 14, 2016. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-570-669-5577 or Hale Products Customer Service Center at 1-800-533-3569.
