KME Fire Trucks Recalled for Pressure Valve Defect
KME is recalling 74 fire trucks because corroding rings may cause pressure relief valves to open, reducing water pressure for firefighting.

Plain-English summary
Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling 74 specific fire-fighting vehicles, including Predator SS Tanker, Pumper, and Aerial models, as well as Commercial Pumper and Predator Panther models. The affected vehicles were built between 2015 and 2018 on Freightliner or Navistar chassis and are equipped with Hale pressure relief valves in their water pumps.
The recall addresses a defect where rings securing the pressure relief valves may corrode over time after exposure to water. This corrosion can cause the ring to fail, allowing the pressure relief valve to open unexpectedly. If this occurs, the water pressure available for fire fighting is reduced, which may hinder firefighting efforts and increase the risk of injury.
KME will notify owners, and KME dealers will install a remedy kit free of charge. The recall began on January 8, 2018. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3926 or Hale customer service at 1-800-533-3569 for more information.
