Dodge Journey Recall: Water Ingress Disables ABS and ESC Systems
Chrysler is recalling 2012-2015 Dodge Journey vehicles because water may enter the ABS module, disabling safety systems and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where water ingress disables critical safety systems (ABS/ESC), explicitly increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury risk.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured between April 21, 2012, and April 14, 2015. The recall involves approximately 275,187 vehicles. In these vehicles, water may enter the wiring harness for the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module and leak into the module itself. This water intrusion can disable the ABS and/or the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.
If the ABS or ESC systems are disabled, a loss of vehicle stability could occur, which increases the risk of a crash. The defect is caused by water entering the wiring harness and leaking into the ABS module.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will seal the ABS wiring harness to prevent water from entering. Dealers will also replace the ABS module and repair the headlamp and dash wiring harness as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on December 21, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
