Pierce Manufacturing Recalls 2006-2007 Commercial Vehicles Due to Ball Joint Defect

Pierce is recalling 2006-2007 Arrow XT, Enforcer, Quantum, Lance, Impel, and Dash vehicles because torn ball joint boots may cause wheel disengagement.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (ball joint failure) that can cause the wheel to disengage from the control arm, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Plain-English summary

Pierce Manufacturing is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Arrow XT, Dash, Enforcer, Lance, Impel, and Quantum vehicles manufactured between January 1, 2006, and March 31, 2007. The recall involves 910 vehicles.

In the affected vehicles, tears in the ball joint protective boots may result in contamination of the ball joints. This contamination may cause premature ball joint failure and the wheel to disengage from the control arm, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Pierce will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected vehicles for torn ball joint boots and evaluate ball joint wear. Ball joints with an unexpected level of wear will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on December 10, 2015. Owners may contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
