Chrysler Recalls 2014-2015 Ram 1500 Trucks for Side Air Bag Defect

Chrysler is recalling 2014-2015 Ram 1500 Quad Cab trucks because side air bag curtains may not fully overlap the C-pillars, increasing injury risk in crashes.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where side air bags may fail to deploy correctly, creating a risk of injury to rear seat occupants in a crash, but no specific injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ram 1500 Quad Cab trucks manufactured between August 26, 2013, and August 8, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with side air bag inflatable curtains (SABIC) that may not fully overlap the C-pillars in the event of a vehicle crash. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."

In the event of a vehicle crash, if a SABIC does not inflate as intended, there is an increased risk of injury to the rear seat occupant. The recall began on October 7, 2015.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the right and left side air bag inflatable curtains for proper orientation. A foil patch will be installed on both sides of the headliner. One or both of the air bag inflatable curtains will be replaced if necessary. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R47.
