E-One Emergency Vehicles Recalled for Lighting and Siren Safety Defect

E-One is recalling 2013-2016 Pumpers, Tankers, and Rescue vehicles because the master power switch does not link to the start circuit, allowing operation without lights or sirens.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where the vehicle can be operated without essential safety lighting and sirens, which the source text states increases the risk of a crash and injury.

Plain-English summary

E-One Incorporated is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 E-One Pumpers, Tankers, and Rescue vehicles. These vehicles were manufactured using International truck chassis between May 5, 2012, and May 16, 2015. The recall affects 164 units.

The vehicles are equipped with a manual master body power disconnect switch that activates side and rear lights and sirens. However, this switch was not linked to the vehicle start circuit. This defect allows an operator to drive the vehicle without the requisite lighting or sirens active. Operating an emergency vehicle without these warning devices increases the risk of a crash and injury to occupants of the emergency vehicle and other vehicles.

E-One will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay that interlocks with the engine start circuit. This ensures the vehicle cannot be operated until the switch is engaged. The repair is free of charge. The recall began on September 18, 2015. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-904-237-1122 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
