Plain-English summary
Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 VAH trucks manufactured between January 31, 2011, and June 25, 2015. These vehicles are equipped with a sealed drag link where the ball socket boot may be damaged due to the angle of the ball stud.
A damaged boot can allow contaminants to enter and corrode the ball socket. This corrosion accelerates wear of the ball, which may result in the ball joint separating from the socket. Such a separation could cause a loss of steering and an increased risk of a crash.
Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the drag link with one that has improved geometry at no charge. The recall began on October 13, 2015. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
