Prevost Recalls 2006-2010 X3-45 Coaches Due to Fire Risk

Prevost is recalling 314 X3-45 coaches from 2006-2010 because rusted booster studs may break, allowing power cables to short against the frame and cause a fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural electrical defect that creates an increased risk of fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural vehicle defects.

Plain-English summary

Prevost Cars, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 X3-45 coaches manufactured between January 11, 2006, and April 12, 2010. A total of 314 vehicles are affected by this recall.

The defect involves booster stud connections that may rust. As the studs rust, they can weaken and break, which allows the power cable to ground against the vehicle frame. If the power cable electrically shorts against the frame, there is an increased risk of a fire.

Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective box over the connection to prevent the power cable from contacting the frame if it comes loose. Any cable that is corroded will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on July 24, 2015. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-800-463-7738 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
