Prevost Recalls 2023 X3-45 Motor Coaches Due to Electrical Fire Risk
Prevost is recalling 2023 X3-45 and X3-45 VIP motor coaches because an insufficient grommet allows electrical cables to chafe, potentially causing a short circuit and fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical system) that poses a risk of fire and potential injury to passengers, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Prevost Car (US) Inc. is recalling certain 2023 X3-45 and X3-45 VIP Entertainer motor coaches. The recall addresses a defect in the electrical system where the grommet protecting power distribution cables passing through a metallic panel is insufficient. This allows the cables to chafe on the panel edges, which can lead to a short circuit.
An electrical short circuit increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Additionally, a fire in a motor coach may require an evacuation procedure in an uncontrolled traffic situation, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.
Prevost will inspect the vehicles and replace the grommet if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 8, 2023. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
