Forest River Recalls 2015 Wildcat Trailers for Incorrect Weight Labels

Forest River is recalling 2015 Wildcat fifth-wheel trailers because incorrect weight labels may lead to overloading and trailer pin box failure.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where a structural failure (pin box) could lead to a crash, but no injuries or illnesses have been reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2015 Wildcat WCF275CKX, WCF272RLX, WCF295RSX, WCF293REX, WCF282RKX, and WCF312BHX recreational fifth wheel trailers manufactured between November 6, 2014, and February 18, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with Federal Certification Labels that incorrectly state the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) as 13,000 lbs. when the correct rating is 11,999 lbs. This discrepancy means the trailers fail to conform to Part 567, "Certification."

If a trailer is overloaded based on the incorrect label, the trailer pin box, which is the connection point between the trailer and the vehicle, may fail. This failure can result in a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.

Forest River will notify owners and send corrected Federal Certification Labels free of charge. The recall began on March 24, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-206-7600 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
