Forest River Recalls 2015 XLR Vehicles Due to Incorrect Weight Rating Labels

Forest River is recalling 2015 XLR recreational vehicles because incorrect Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) labels may lead to hitch overload and loss of control.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (incorrect GVWR labeling) that may result in hitch assembly failure, loss of control, and increased risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain 2015 XLR XLF375AMP, XLF380AMP, XLF386X12HP, XLF395AMP, XLF415AMP, and XLF425AMP recreational vehicles and toy haulers. The recall involves 142 vehicles that may be equipped with incorrect hitch assembly rating information. The correct Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is 18,000 lbs, but the Certification label incorrectly states the rating is 21,000 lbs. As a result, these trailers fail to conform to Part 567, "Certification."

If a trailer is loaded based on the incorrect GVWR, the hitch assembly may become overloaded. This overload could result in hitch assembly failure, causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.

Forest River will notify owners and send corrected Certification, Tire Information, and Cargo Carrying Capacity labels free of charge. The recall began on March 25, 2015.
