Plain-English summary
Yakima Products, Inc. is recalling certain Q-Tower Roof Racks (part numbers 8000124 and 8000135) manufactured between January 26, 2015, and May 26, 2015, as well as Q-Tower Stripped Replacement towers (part number 8880048) manufactured between April 1, 2015, and April 15, 2015. The recall affects 3,468 units.
The affected roof racks have crossbar clamping wedges that may slide on the crossbars during the installation process. This defect causes the rack to have a loose fit on the vehicle. A rack that does not snugly fit the roof may eject from the vehicle while it is in motion, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Yakima will notify owners and provide proper crossbar clamping wedges free of charge. The recall began on June 17, 2015. Owners may contact Yakima customer service at 1-888-266-3085 or email [email protected]. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
