GM Recalls 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and STS-V for Fuel Pump Fire Risk

What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fuel system defect that explicitly increases the risk of a vehicle fire and crash, which aligns with the rubric criteria for significant injury or property-damage reports and structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V vehicles manufactured between October 6, 2003, and March 15, 2007, as well as 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V vehicles manufactured between June 23, 2005, and March 15, 2007. The recall addresses a defect in the fuel pump module where electrical terminals may overheat, causing the flange material to melt.
If the flange melts, a hole may form that allows the fuel pump to leak fuel. This leak can cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, leaking fuel in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness free of charge. The recall began on March 12, 2015, and interim notices were sent in late October. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
