Plain-English summary

E-One Incorporated is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Emergency One Typhoon, Cyclone II, and Quest Fire Fighting Chassis. The recall covers vehicles manufactured between March 19, 2013, and April 15, 2014, that are equipped with Vehicle Input Module (VIM) part number 508875. A total of 112 vehicles are affected by this recall.

The Vehicle Input Module contains software that may experience a defect affecting the operation of brake lights and other electrical functions. This defect may cause the brake lights to remain illuminated even when the vehicle is not braking, which could mislead other motorists into thinking the vehicle is stopping or slowing down, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the defect may prevent the vehicle from raising its idle when auxiliary equipment is in use, potentially reducing the performance of aerial devices, electrical generators, and rescue tools.

E-One will notify owners, and dealers will update the VIM software free of charge. The recall began on June 12, 2014. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-800-627-5050 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
