Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2015 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks. The affected vehicles were manufactured between September 13, 2013, and March 28, 2014, and are equipped with 6.2L gasoline or 6.7L diesel engines and 6R140 transmissions.
The recall addresses an error in the transmission control software. When shifting from "Park" to "Drive," the vehicle may display "Drive" on the gear selector but actually engage "Reverse" for 1.5 seconds before engaging "Drive." This condition does not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102. If the vehicle is in "Reverse" while the gear selection shows "Drive," unexpected movement could occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the transmission software free of charge. The recall began on May 6, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14C04. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
