Plain-English summary
Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014 CXU and MRU trucks manufactured between August 12, 2013, and October 9, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with IMMI-brand L9 seat belt buckles that may fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."
The defect involves the latch plate becoming partially engaged with the buckle when the release button is pressed, making the seat belt difficult to unlatch. If the latch plate remains partially engaged, egress from the vehicle could be hindered, which would increase the risk of injury in the event of an emergency.
Mack will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt buckles and replace them if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on January 30, 2014. Owners may contact Mack Trucks at 1-336-393-2000 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
