Chrysler Recalls 2011-2013 Vehicles for Active Head Restraint Defect
Chrysler is recalling specific 2011-2013 models because electrical issues may prevent active head restraints from deploying in rear-end collisions, increasing injury risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where safety restraints may fail to deploy, increasing the risk of injury in a collision, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury reports or structural defects.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chrysler 200 and Sebring, 2011-2013 Dodge Avenger, 2011-2012 Dodge Nitro, and 2011-2012 Jeep Liberty vehicles. The recall covers vehicles manufactured between June 2011 and January 2013, depending on the specific model. The defect involves electrical over-stress of a resistor in the occupant restraint control module, which may lead to the non-deployment of active head restraints during a rear impact collision.
In the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the active head restraints, their failure to deploy could increase the risk of injury to occupants. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will flash the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) or replace the occupant restraint control module, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013.
