Terex South Dakota, Inc. is recalling certain model year 1999-2012 XL4000 Digger Derrick utility trucks. The recall involves 261 vehicles where the shims and spacers used to adjust the length of the hydraulic cylinder may give. This failure can cause the rod eye and threads to fatigue while lifting loads.
The defect poses a risk of the hydraulic cylinder separating from the digger derrick arm, allowing it to collapse without warning. This increases the risk of injury to the operator or those nearby.
Terex will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the rod eye and threads as necessary. The existing shims and spacer will be replaced with a hardened spacer.
