Dometic Recalls Motor-Powered Awning Models Due to Injury Risk
Dometic is recalling specific motor-powered awnings and service kits because improper installation can damage the motor, causing the awning to unfurl unexpectedly and increase the risk of injury or a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of personal injury or vehicle crash due to unexpected awning movement, but the source text does not report any actual injuries, fatalities, or agency classifications that would elevate the severity to Severe or Critical.
Plain-English summary
Dometic Corporation is recalling certain WeatherPro and 9100 motor-powered awning models, as well as specific awning motor service kits. The affected WeatherPro models are 805, 815, 825, 835, 845, 885, 855, and 905, with serial numbers ranging from 306XXXXX to 314XXXXX. The affected 9100 models are 910, 912, 913, 914, 915, 916, 917, and 91. The service kits have part numbers starting with 3307923 and 3310423. These products were manufactured between February 13, 2013, and April 9, 2013, and were sold as aftermarket replacements or installed as original equipment on recreation vehicles and horse trailers.
The recall is necessary because if the installation sequence is not completely followed, the awning motor may become damaged. If the motor is damaged, the awning can unfurl unexpectedly while the vehicle is at rest or in transit. This unexpected movement increases the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.
Dometic will notify purchasers of replacement awnings and work with vehicle manufacturers to identify and notify owners of recreational vehicles with the affected awnings installed. Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with a design that prevents out-of-sequence installation errors. Owners should contact their RV manufacturer or Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information. Owners are instructed not to drive their vehicle until repairs can be performed.
