DRV Recalls 2014 Recreational Vehicles Due to Awning Motor Defect

DRV is recalling 129 model year 2014 recreational vehicles and travel trailers because a design change in the power awning motor may cause screws to shear, potentially allowing the awning to unfurl unexpectedly.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, specifically citing the potential for personal injury or a vehicle crash due to the awning unfurling unexpectedly.

Plain-English summary

DRV Suites is recalling certain model year 2014 Tradition, Mobile Suite, Mobile Suite Select, and Elite Suite recreational vehicles and travel trailers. These vehicles were manufactured between December 10, 2012, and July 30, 2013. The recall involves 129 affected units.

The recall is due to a design change in the Dometic-brand power awning motor assembly. This design change may cause the motor assembly screws to shear unknowingly. If the screws shear, the awning can unfurl unexpectedly while the vehicle is at rest or in transit, which increases the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.

Owners are instructed not to drive their vehicles until repairs can be performed. DRV will notify owners, and Dometic staff will replace the affected motor with one of a different design. The recall began on October 15, 2013. Owners may contact DRV at 1-260-562-1075 or Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information.
