Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2012 Freightliner Cascadia and Coronado tractor trailers. The recall covers vehicles manufactured between August 1, 2011, and December 30, 2011, that are equipped with specific Thermo King TriPac Auxiliary Power Units (APUs). The affected APU serial numbers range from 3000106335 to 3000127584, and these units were manufactured between July 29, 2011, and November 7, 2011.
The defect involves the maintenance access panel door located on the bottom of the APU, which may dislodge and separate from the unit. If the door separates while the vehicle is being driven, it may create a road hazard for other drivers.
DTNA will notify owners, and Thermo King dealers will inspect the APUs and replace any affected panel doors free of charge. The recall began on February 25, 2013. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
