Harley-Davidson Recalls VRSCDX Motorcycles Due to Brake Line Damage Risk
Harley-Davidson is recalling 2012-2013 VRSCDX motorcycles because a loose license plate bracket may damage the rear brake line, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect (brake line damage) that explicitly states the risk of a crash leading to injury or death, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Harley-Davidson Motor Company is recalling all model year 2012 and certain model year 2013 VRSCDX motorcycles manufactured between June 14, 2011, and August 1, 2012. The recall involves 2,798 vehicles.
The license plate bracket assembly's mounting screws may loosen, causing the assembly to separate from the rear fender. This condition may lead to contact with the rear tire, which could cause the bracket to rotate and damage the rear brake line. If this contact remains undetected, it may affect rear brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash that could lead to injury or death of the rider.
Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair any affected motorcycles free of charge. The safety recall began on November 6, 2012. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson at 1-414-343-4056 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
