Autocar Recalls Xpeditor Trucks Due to Seatbelt Retractability Issues

Autocar is recalling 2008-2012 Xpeditor trucks because a seatbelt retractor may malfunction, increasing injury risk in a crash.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (seatbelt retractor malfunction) that explicitly increases the risk of personal injury or death in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Autocar, LLC is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Xpeditor heavy-duty class 8 vehicles. These vehicles were manufactured between December 17, 2007, and July 10, 2012, and are equipped with a right-hand (passenger-side) Bostrom air-ride seat. The recall affects 699 vehicles.

The seatbelt and tether intermediate connection point on the seat bracket may interfere with the seatbelt retractor mechanism as the seat is pneumatically adjusted for height. Over time, this interference may cause the retractor mechanism cover to crack, allowing the retractor spring to become loose and inoperable. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

In the event of a crash, if the seat belt retractor malfunctions, the passenger may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of personal injury or death. Autocar will notify owners and provide instructions for scheduling the vehicle repair free of charge. The recall began on November 13, 2012. Owners may contact the Autocar Service Department at 1-888-218-3611 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
