Volvo Recalls 2012 Models for Improperly Attached Seat Wire Harness
Volvo is recalling certain 2012 S60, S80, XC60, and XC70 vehicles because the seat wire harness may not be attached properly, potentially affecting airbag and seatbelt pretensioner deployment in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a defect that may prevent airbags and seatbelt pretensioners from deploying in a crash, which constitutes a significant injury risk and structural safety defect.
Plain-English summary
Volvo Cars of N.A. LLC. is recalling certain model year 2012 S60, S80, XC60, and XC70 vehicles manufactured between May 16, 2011, and October 6, 2011. The recall involves approximately 32,552 vehicles where the wire harness located under the front seats may not have been attached properly to the seat frame.
If the seats are moved to adjust the seating position, the wire harness may get pulled and disconnect. In the event of a crash, this defect could cause the front and/or side impact airbags to deploy improperly or not at all, and the lap belt pretensioner may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, secure the seat wire harness free of charge. The safety recall began on April 12, 2012. Owners may contact Volvo Cars at 1-800-458-1552 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
