Tomberlin AVL Low-Speed Vehicle Seat Belt Labeling Recall
Tomberlin Automotive Group is recalling 2012 AVL low-speed vehicles because seat belt tags lack the date of manufacture, failing federal safety standards.
What this means for you
Cosmetic or documentation issue. No expected health impact, but the manufacturer is correcting the affected products.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a documentation and labeling issue (missing date of manufacture) rather than a functional defect, fitting the rubric for documentation issues.
Plain-English summary
Tomberlin Automotive Group is recalling certain model year 2012 Tomberlin AVL low-speed vehicles manufactured between June 2011 and September 2011. The recall addresses a defect where the seat belt identification tag does not include the date of manufacture. Consequently, the seat belts fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 500, "Low Speed Vehicles."
The primary consequence of this defect is that if a safety issue arises with the affected seat belts, vehicle owners may not be able to identify the specific seat belt due to the missing date of manufacture. No injuries or deaths have been reported in connection with this recall.
Tomberlin will notify owners and replace the seat belts free of charge. The safety recall began on January 10, 2012. Owners may contact Tomberlin at 1-706-860-8880 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
