Ford Recalls 2015 Transit Vehicles for Missing Seat Belt Label Information
Ford is recalling 49 model year 2015 Transit vehicles because their seat belt labels are missing required model and year information, stating 'prototype sample' instead.
What this means for you
Cosmetic or documentation issue. No expected health impact, but the manufacturer is correcting the affected products.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a documentation and labeling issue where required information is missing from seat belt labels, which falls under the rubric criteria for documentation issues and packaging-only problems.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2015 Transit vehicles manufactured between March 1, 2015, and April 10, 2015. The affected vehicles may have been built with seat belt assemblies that have labels missing the required belt model and model year. Instead of the correct information, these labels state "prototype sample."
This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies." In the event of a safety issue with the affected seat belts, the vehicle owner may not be able to identify the specific seat belt if the label does not include a date of manufacture.
Ford has notified the one fleet owner affected by this recall. A Ford representative will travel to the vehicle locations to install a new label that includes all required information at no charge. The recall began on June 12, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
