Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2011 and 2012 Thomas Built EF and Minotour school buses manufactured between July 26, 2011, and August 9, 2011. These vehicles are equipped with Spectal Industries emergency vertical push-out windows. The recall involves 90 affected vehicles.
The defect involves the use of incorrect rivets to attach the handles used to open the emergency windows. If a handle detaches during a non-emergency situation, the window cannot be re-secured, creating a risk that children may fall or climb out. However, if the handle detaches during an actual emergency, the window will still open and allow for egress.
Owners should contact Daimler Trucks at 1-800-547-0712 or visit an authorized service facility to have the repairs performed free of charge. The safety recall began on December 8, 2011.
