Hyundai Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Elantra vehicles manufactured between July 14, 2006, and August 29, 2007. The recall addresses a defect in the driver's seat track position sensor, which determines the seat's fore and aft position to adjust the driver's frontal airbag deployment pressure.

The airbag control module may receive an unstable electrical signal from the sensor. In a crash requiring driver frontal airbag deployment, if the seat is in one of the forward positions where a lower pressure deployment is intended, the airbag may instead deploy at a higher pressure than intended. This higher pressure deployment increases the risk of injury resulting from the airbag deployment.
