Sierra Recalls Trailers With Defective Norcold Refrigerator Fire Safety Feature
Sierra is recalling 2005 Cimarron and 2008 Featherlite/United trailers equipped with 1200-series Norcold refrigerators. The safety feature may fail to shut off power quickly enough to prevent fire.

Sierra Custom Interiors is recalling certain model year 2005 Cimarron and model year 2008 Featherlite and United trailers. These vehicles are equipped with 1200-series Norcold refrigerators that contain a sensing algorithm or thermal switch designed to shut off power to the refrigerator when high temperatures are detected.
The defect involves the response times of the sensor algorithm and thermal switch devices. These devices may not shut off power to the refrigerator in sufficient time to prevent a fire, particularly in the event of a possible hydrogen gas leak that causes high temperatures.
Sierra is working with Norcold to identify and notify affected owners. Owners will be instructed to contact Norcold dealers to receive the remedy free of charge. The safety recall began on February 18, 2011. Owners may also contact Norcold at 1-800-767-9101 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
