Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (headlight height) that increases the risk of a crash, but the source text does not report any specific injuries or fatalities, placing it in the 'High' category per the rubric for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain model year 2011 Freightliner Business Class M2 106V incomplete chassis cab vehicles. These vehicles were manufactured between July 19, 2010, and January 14, 2011. The recall addresses a defect where the headlights may have been installed more than 54 inches from the road surface, failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 regarding lamps and associated equipment.
Headlights installed at heights outside the parameters set by the safety standard may not fully illuminate road surfaces or may inhibit the ability of other motorists to see the vehicle. This condition increases the risk of a crash.
Owners should contact Daimler Trucks at 1-800-547-0712 or their local dealer. Dealers will inspect the headlamp height and replace any nonconforming headlights with new ones that lower the bulb center to meet the safety standard, free of charge. An interim letter was sent to owners on June 1, 2011, and the notification letter stating the remedy is available was mailed on October 10, 2011.
