Goshen Coach Recalls Buses Due to Air Conditioner Fire Risk

Goshen Coach is recalling certain 2006-2011 buses because a loose fuse in the air conditioning unit may cause arcing, melting, and potential fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a vehicle component that may result in flame, smoke, and potential fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for significant injury or property-damage reports and structural/functional vehicle defects.

Plain-English summary

Goshen Coach is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 buses equipped with Carrier GENV EM-1 evaporator units. The affected models include the GC II, EuroShuttle, G-Force, Pacer II, and Sentinel.

Due to time, temperature, and/or vibration, the fuse in the air conditioning unit may loosen in the fuse holder. This can result in high resistance and arcing. If sufficient arcing occurs, the fuse holder may melt, which may be accompanied by flame, smoke, and potential fire.

Goshen Coach will notify owners and provide information on how to obtain a retrofit kit from Carrier along with repair instructions. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall began on March 7, 2011. Owners may also contact Carrier's hotline at 1-800-793-4741 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
