What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (seat back strength) that increases the risk of injury in a crash, but no specific injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2011 Ford Explorer vehicles manufactured between July 15, 2010, and December 13, 2010. These vehicles are equipped with second-row 60% seats featuring manual recliner mechanisms that may have components out of dimensional specification. As a result, these seats fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 207, "Seating Systems."
In the event of a crash, the seat back may not provide the required strength, which increases the risk of injury to occupants. The recall campaign number is 11C15.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will repair the seats free of charge. The safety recall began on February 15, 2011. Owners may contact the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
