The defect involves the hitch assembly of the chassis, which may be built with steel tubes that are not of adequate size to withstand forces exerted on the hitch in certain applications. This could cause the hitch to crack and become nonfunctional or break completely, separating the trailer tongue from the rest of the chassis, which could result in a crash.
