PJ Trailers is recalling 2015-2016 T1 single axle tilt trailers because a notch in the steel tongue may compromise its strength, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where the trailer tongue may crack and separate, explicitly increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.
Plain-English summary
PJ Trailers is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 T1 single axle tilt trailers manufactured between March 31, 2015, and November 17, 2015. The recall involves 36 units.
During production, a notch was cut into the steel tongue of these trailers. This notch may have been too deep, compromising the strength of the tongue and causing it to crack and separate from the trailer. If the trailer separates from the tongue, it would not be connected to the tow vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
PJ Trailers has notified owners and provided each with a reinforcement kit to be installed free of charge. The recall began in November 2015. Owners may contact PJ Trailers customer service at 1-866-752-8781 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
