Plain-English summary
Metal Fabrication, Inc. has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of a defect in certain model year 2010 MFI boat trailers. The affected models are BDPY, CTKR, BDTU, BDMR, CTTU, CTT3, and CTP3. These trailers were equipped with brake systems manufactured between August 11, 2009, and January 26, 2010.
The defect involves a potential misalignment of the brake solenoid on the trailer tongue. If the solenoid is misaligned, it may interfere with the actuator housing. This interference can lead to leakage of brake fluid or the presence of air in the brake lines, which may cause the brakes to not operate as intended and increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and test the brake system free of charge. The safety recall began on May 3, 2010. Owners may contact Metal Fabrication customer service at 931-962-0025 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
