Guess? Inc. is recalling approximately 2,300 Guess Jeans American Tradition Women's Jackets in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves only the "Heather Charcoal" color of the reverse fleece jackets, which are made of a cotton-polyester blend with a raised fiber surface often called Sherpa. The jackets are button-front, long-sleeved, and feature two welt pockets and a yoke.
The jackets failed to meet federal mandatory standards for fabric flammability, violating the federal Flammable Fabrics Act. Fabrics that do not comply with these standards typically burn faster than newspaper, creating a serious risk of burn injuries. CPSC and Guess? Inc. are not aware of any injuries involving these jackets, and the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.
The jackets were sold by Guess? Inc. and other clothing stores nationwide from August 1997 through October 1997 for about $88. Affected jackets are labeled in part with "Guess jeans," "COLOR: HTCL," "CUT 03500," "An American Tradition," "MADE IN USA," and "STYLE 57 809T18." Consumers should immediately stop wearing these jackets and return them to the store where purchased for a refund.
