Creative Technologies Corp. is voluntarily recalling approximately 50,000 pasta machines in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall covers the Takka Pasta and Dough machine (model X1000) and the Pasta Express machines (models X2000, X3000, and X4000) with serial numbers up to 78209. These machines were sold nationwide through department stores, mail order catalogs, and warehouse clubs from 1989 through 1992 for between $90 and $200.

The hazard involves the safety cutoff switch on the lid. If the switch does not activate, the machine may turn on unexpectedly while a consumer's hand is in the mixing bowl. CPSC and Creative Technologies are aware of 11 incidents where the machine turned on unexpectedly, resulting in nine injuries, including cut, crushed, and severed fingers.

Consumers should stop using the affected pasta machines immediately. The model and serial numbers are located on a label on the bottom of the machine. Creative Technologies will help consumers determine if their machine is subject to the recall and will provide a free replacement lid.
